Almost four inches of snow fell in the backyard last Friday night into Saturday finally breaking the curse of the penguin snow measuring stick. Well, maybe. It remains to be seen if we will have any substantial amount of snow while the penguin stick is up. Either way, a bit of snow can be a magical thing as I was reminded by a friend this past week so that's cool. By this morning, the rain had washed away much of the snow. The backyard birds seem mostly unaffected by the rain, however, and there was even one dove that was standing out in it with it's back covered in raindrops, but they couldn't break through the bird's feathers.Meanwhile, sunrise occurred this morning at 7:15, sunset will arrive at 5:11 this evening. Having gained 13 mins. this week, we're up to 9 hrs., 56 mins. of cloud-covered sunlight today.
Backyard Tip Of The Week: While out walking through the snow in the backyard this week, I found a bunch of rabbit tracks in the snow! One trail of footprints led to an area where the snow had apparently been dug up to get to the fine leafy growth underneath and you could tell where it had been eaten. That's a clever bunny to know how to get some food even when the ground is snow-covered. So, here's your tip for this week, why not head outside to your backyard or favorite nature spot the next time it snows? You can check out all of the bird and animal tracks in the snow and maybe even find some cool thing that you never knew before. Maybe bring some friends and make a small party of your outing. Try it, you're sure to love it!
