The female grosbeak was spotted on one of the new feeders this week. We call her Miss Crunchy, because you can hear her big beak crunching against the sunflower seeds from across the yard. I was glad to see that she'd adapted to the new feeder. Also this week, the rhododendron bush has come into bloom and is beginning to show it's reddish-purple flowers.

Meanwhile, sunrise occurred this morning at 5:47, sunset will arrive at 8:07 this evening. Having gained 15 minutes this week, we're up to 14 hours, 20 minutes of abundant sunlight today!

Backyard Tip Of The Week:
Remember to look up once in a while. We get so accustomed to looking straight ahead toward our goal, that we sometimes forget to look up. Just the other day, I looked up while leaving the garage and there was a huge turkey vulture flying directly above, and only about twenty feet away from where I was standing. Try looking up at nighttime, too. You might notice the rare planetary alignment beginning, which will occur in December. As the season continues and the evenings get warmer, you might see some cool bats eating insects as they fly above. Who knows? You, may even catch a glimpse of a UFO! Try it, you're sure to love it!
