Cool sightings of the week:The butterflies have returned to the backyard! I'm only finding the small white ones at this point, but it's nice to see the gentle fluttering of butterfly wings again. Also nice to see, all of the other avian activity in the backyard this week including several pairs of overly amorous mourning doves who were obviously engaged in their mating routine near the feeders the other day. We've got goldfinches galore. Still looking a bit scrappy with their molting colors and feathers turning to bright yellow this time of year, the goldfinches are getting ready to look spiffy for their upcoming mating season. There's quite a lovely peeping sound that I've been hearing at night. It acts as a nice sleep aid, especially around April 15th. I'm guessing that the peeping sound is from tree frogs, though I've yet to spot any.
Either way, you can bet the tax refund that finding backyard joy in so many wonderful ways this week was very cool!
