The chipmunk was spotted again yesterday. Running across the lawn on a warm and sunny afternoon, the chipmunk stopped during its travels for just a moment as it stood straight up on its hind legs amassing an impressive height of at least eight inches. The chipmunk then ran to the flower bed by the window and proceeded to dig furiously in a particular spot until it reached down into its newly made hole and extracted a very large black walnut that the squirrel had buried. As if disappointed with its find, the chipmunk dropped the walnut back into the open hole and scampered off to find something else to do or to eat.
Meanwhile, sunrise occurred in the backyard this morning at 6:40. Sunset will arrive at 7:27 this evening. Having gained another 22 minutes this week, we’re up to 12 hours, 47 minutes of life-giving sunlight today.
Backyard Tip of the week:
Early spring is a great time of year to tackle a few tough chores and to get them done a bit more easily than you will later in the season. Take your invasive vines for instance, take them now and cut them down while they are readily exposed and hopefully not too hard to get to. Just cut away those unwanted vines and other plants when you have time in the next few weeks. The benefit of not having a lot of overgrowth will cut your labor substantially. Work smart, not hard, when you've got a tough backyard job to do. Try it, you're sure to love it!
