Cool sightings of the week:Sam the cat and I were sitting by the open window this past Wednesday morning, just enjoying the smells and sounds of spring, when, suddenly, a very large hawk dropped straight down from the sky and crossed in front of the window. Passing only about six inched in front of Sam's face as she sat in the window, the hawk flew to the ground, grabbed something, and quickly crossed the backyard, disappearing into the trees. Sam jumped down from the window in complete surprise and perhaps a bit overwhelmed by the proximity of the hawk's attack. I was quite surprised myself and had to catch my breath after such an exciting moment. Still wishing that the hawks would leave my favorite backyard birds alone, I have to admire the hawk's awesome power and flying skills.
Yes indeed, Sam and I would agree that having an impromptu close encounter with the big hawk this week was very cool!
