Cool Sightings Of The Week:
The first toad of the year was spotted the other night. Seen more frequently in years past, I was glad to see such a big toad, so early in the spring.

Spring continues it's journey through our lives and check this out - just yesterday, the chickadees were seen going in and out of the old water pump again, getting the nest ready and making plans for raising their new chicks this summer. I was very excited to see the chickadees at the pump again since they had abandoned their makeshift home in the pump after last Spring's Operation Chickadee Rescue, when one of the chicks fell out of the pump spout and had to be placed back in the nest by hand. Well, those chicks were all fine in the end. Maybe I can finally get the video finished sometime soon, so you can see it for yourself.

Also this week, the male grosbeak was spotted on the hook above the new songbird feeder, looking perplexed. No doubt, the grosbeak was trying to figure out how to land on the odd feeder and wondering where it's favorite songbird feeder was. That, of course, would be the feeder that was broken by the bear when it came through the backyard last Spring. Feeling forlorn for this grosbeak, and wanting to make him as comfortable as possible, so he might stay awhile, I headed outside soon afterward and fixed that old songbird feeder up nicely. The next morning, I awoke to find my big-beaked friend eating contentedly from it.

Cool rules in this backyard! Catching so many spring surprises this week was very cool!
