Cool sightings of the week:
First, as briefly mentioned, the rose-breasted grosbeak was seen to have returned to the backyard this past week. A strikingly beautiful bird, the male grosbeak has a black head and back, with a white belly and a red triangle on its breast that is positioned so that it looks like a little red handkerchief around it's neck. Add in a rather large beak, as the name implies and you've got an impressive bird who may spend his winter in Peru or Venezuela, but at least a few of them enjoy their spring and summer right here in good old Hunterdon county.

Also this week, the full moon hung low in the eastern sky after midnight, bathing the bedroom in an erie glow as it shone through the stained glass window hanging. An image popped in my head of a scene from an old black and white werewolf movie and I tried to contain myself from howling with delight.

Either way, catching sight of both a mysterious looking full moon and the first rose-breasted grosbeak of the season this week was very cool!
