Cool sightings of the week:Some weeks are ripe with cool sightings and this time of year brings many joys to the backyard for our eyes and ears to enjoy. Submitted for your approval, here are several recent cool sightings.
The chipping sparrows have returned for the season, bringing their special style and grace, perhaps as forgiveness for winter's cold. The willow trees have their leaves again, the pond is now home to at least four bull frogs, and two beautiful horses were seen riding over the mountain just last Saturday.
Maybe coolest of all, the chickadees were spotted near the old style water pump again recently. Having raised two broods of offspring from inside the pump last year, I wondered if they would do it again this year. Well, the other day I heard a pair of chickadees calling to each other in the vicinity of the pump and I watched with delight as the male flew and landed on the pump. Seeming to investigate, the chickadee looked around and then into the hole on the top of the pump. Before long, the bird disappeared down the hole into the pump. It seems the chickadees are going to do it again this year.
With so many cool sightings in the backyard, enjoying spring's multiple joys this week was very cool!
