Cool sightings of the week:
A particularly fluffy neighborhood skunk has been seen quite a bit lately. Usually just after dark, the skunk will make it's way through the yard, switching between natural food sources and scrounging whatever leftovers it can from beneath the bird feeders. Well, last Friday evening, the skunk was out making it's rounds when it was seen heading to the pond for a drink again. I'd witnessed this interesting behavior for the first time, only recently, and was very pleased to get a better look at the skunk's drinking routine this time as I watched from the window. The pond is surrounded by rocks and raised a bit in sections which requires the skunk to climb for his night-time drink of water, but as I watched, I saw just how easily the skunk walks up the rocks from a certain angle, using the rocks as steps along the way. Once it's thirst is quenched, the skunk makes an easy exit down the backside of the pond to the cover and safety of the forsythia bush. Well, have a drink on me! Catching sight of the big fluffy skunk climbing it's own rock stairway to the waterfall this week was very cool!
