Cool sightings of the week:
The tufted titmice were gathered together in a group the other day as I heard them singing from within a nearby shrub. It was a decidedly excited and raspy song that the birds were singing and I could see them all flying around the bush frenetically. Also this week, one of the bird feeders was found lying on the ground after the recent strong winds. Called the big-top feeder, it has ports on the side for the birds to use, as well as an open area under the overhanging dome where the smaller birds can feed on black-oiled sunflower while sheltered from the elements. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the feeder and wire cable were intact, but that the hook had simply come out of the tree. After a few days, I was able to get the big ladder setup and to clean and re-hang the big-top feeder. By the next morning, the finches, downy woodpeckers and chickadees were delighted to find that the feeder was back up. Kind of a simple sighting, but important and joy giving, just the same. Getting to see so many of my favorite backyard birds enjoying one of their favorite bird feeders again and catching sight of a tufted titmouse frenzy in the rose bush this week was very cool!
