A few pine siskins were seen to have returned to the backyard this week, along with an American robin that was spotted on a spruce tree Wednesday as the snow fell heavily.Meanwhile, the nights are getting shorter and the days are growing longer. Sunrise occurred in the backyard this morning at 6:59. Sunset will arrive at 5:30 this evening. Having gained fourteen minutes this week, we're up to 10 hours and 31 minutes of exquisite sunlight each day! And, how cool is this? We're just 36 days away from Spring!
Backyard Tip of the week:
See if you can spend some quality time in a natural setting with your loved ones this Valentine's Day. A walk out among nature's special seasonal offerings can be very romantic and might be just the thing to set the tone for a lovely evening. Try it, you're sure to love it!
Backyard sightings for last week:
Including northern cardinals, dark-eyed juncos, blue-jays, brown creepers, song sparrows, tree sparrows, white-throated sparrows. American robins, Carolina wrens, Carolina chickadees, catbirds, mockingbirds, house finches, goldfinches, purple finches and pine siskins. Red-bellied and downy woodpeckers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers. Northern flickers, white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, starlings, grackles, mourning doves, crows, and a couple of squirrels that were seen before the snow fell, but not since.
