Cool sightings of the week:
A couple... The first happened when a friend called the other day to tell me about all of the snow geese he'd been seeing in his area. In fact, he said, they were there again now, in a farmer's field not too far away and that I might want to go and see them. So, I did, and what a magnificent sight it was! There were many thousands of snow geese all through the farmer's fields in an almost organized pattern. Some gathered together, some flying here and there perhaps to reposition themselves in the group. I've probably never before seen so many snow geese, or any other type of bird, in the same place at once. It was truly awesome. I snapped some pictures and will get them on the website soon so you can see them, too. Also this week, I saw a bunch of mourning doves gathered around the pond and bird feeders. There were about a dozen of the large and slow moving doves moving about the area eating, drinking and sunning themselves in their seeming coffee clutch. Winter can be such a delight! Getting to see so many thousands of snow geese in that farmer's field and catching sight of a gathering of mourning doves having their Ladies' Lunch this week was very cool!
