At least four different flocks of Canada geese were seen flying over the backyard last Sunday afternoon. Flapping and honking as they do, it's not hard to spot them on the mountain, just rare to see so many on the same day. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the sun was shining brightly against the back garage wall and though it was a very chilly day, the overly optimistic, ice-encrusted, rust-ensconced, but supposed to be made out of copper thermometer gave a reading of ninety-five degrees when the temps were actually in the mid-forties.Backyard Tip of the week:
Now is a good time of year to keep an eye out for any special birds or otherwise interesting wildlife that might be using your birdbath or water feature. For example, I've heard it said that woodpeckers don't drink from birdbaths or fountains, but I see them on my little makeshift birdbath/pond regularly. During these cold, dry days of winter, you may easily spot some cool bird at your fountain. Try it, you're sure to love it!
