Cool sighting of the week:
A couple... There are dozens of new tadpoles in the pond as of yesterday! Thanks to a friend who's backyard has been very wet. I'll monitor the tadpoles progression into frogs and let you know how they do. Additionally, several skunks have been seen in the backyard and mentioned in the past. There's the mostly white one, the mostly black one, and the nasty old three spot skunk that ran at me last year when I yelled at it for attacking another skunk. Well, just last week an usual sighting was observed. What looked like a very large skunk crossed the backyard at dusk and went into a brushy area. As the creature emerged from the wildflowers I could see that it was in fact three individual skunks. A mother and her two offspring. One of the young skunks was seen on its own a few nights later as it hopped onto a low bird bath for a drink. Skunks are sometimes considered to be beneficial because of their appetite for grubs although they will dig holes in the lawn in order to access the grubs. Either way, watching a mother skunk and her two young kits make their way through the backyard in a triangle formation last week was very cool!
