Cool sightings of the week:
A young red-belly woodpecker was spotted in the mimosa tree near the peanut feeder this week. The young red-belly can be easily identified by its colorless and seemingly bare head. The adult male's head has a pronounced red streak and the female's is nearly the same, but with a patch of grey halfway up the back of her neck. Also this week, the elusive hairy woodpecker was seen to have returned to the backyard and a freight train was heard late each night blowing its whistle off in the distance. It was very cool!
