Cool sighting of the week:
Having recently repaired my favorite songbird feeder from its latest damaging squirrel attack, I've been reminded how much the birds think of it as their favorite old feeder as well. Its not a very big feeder, but maybe allows for easier perching which is why the songbirds seem to like it more than most substitutes. Since the old songbird feeder has been back up, I've seen  both the male and female cardinals using it which is rare for such a small feeder. The cardinals in this backyard generally prefer to feed on the ground or on the larger platform feeders. The male and female rose-breasted grosbeaks are also partial to this feeder. And, after the feeder had been back up for a few days, I was even lucky enough to see the male and female grosbeaks on the same side of the feeder together while a bright red male cardinal fed on the other side, right there in front of the window. It was very cool!
