Cool sightings of the week:I was just saying to a friend this week that I wondered what chipmunks do as far as procreating. I only say that because you never see them in action, so to speak, as you do the birds and some of the other animal wildlife. So there I was sitting on the front porch yesterday morning, just looking out into the yard and driveway area when, suddenly, I saw a pair of small blurs moving around low to the ground, but moving so quickly that I figured they were birds. A moment later I saw them again and realized that it was actually a pair of chipmunks and the one was indeed going after the other, but he wasn't trying to scare it away. That's not how it looked to me anyway. I watched as they ran around the grass and pavement until one went under a tree and out of sight. I didn't see where the other one went, and I didn't see any real action.
Also this week, the Carolina chickadees who've been living in the old water pump have been very busy bringing food to their makeshift nest. Incredibly, just this past Wednesday, for the first time ever, the sound of many young chickadees could be heard coming from inside the pump. It was very cool!
Heard on WDVR FM every Friday at 3PM during Anything Goes!
