Thanks to the sunny days and warming temperatures of the past week, I'm happy to report that the backyard is visible once again. Only a few patches of white remain where the tallest drifts and piles were left after the last snowstorm. The warm weather comes at a price in one respect as our recent Snowman Simon had lost his head by last Saturday and is now totally gone. With spring on the way it's easy to cope with the temporary nature of a snowman. Still, Simon serves as a good reminder for us to seek and enjoy those special and sometimes momentary joys which nature offers in so many ways throughout the seasons.

Meanwhile, sunrise occurred in the backyard this morning at 6:16. Sunset will arrive at 6:03 this evening. Having gained a whopping 21 minutes this week, we're up to 11 hours, 47 minutes of magically delicious sunlight today! We're just eight days away from Spring!

Backyard Tip of the week:
Just a quick reminder to clean bird feeders periodically. Some prefer hot soapy water, some prefer a 9 to 1 water/bleach solution. Either way, a clean bird feeder is a good thing. Try it, you and your feathered friends are sure to love it!

Backyard sightings for last week:
Including northern cardinals, dark-eyed juncos, blue-jays, brown creepers, song sparrows, tree sparrows, white-throated sparrows. American robins, Carolina wrens, Carolina chickadees, catbirds, mockingbirds, house finches, goldfinches, purple finches, pine siskins. Red-bellied and downy woodpeckers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers. Northern flickers, white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, mourning doves, crows, and a couple of squirrels.
