Cool sightings of the week:the first happened last Saturday when temps in the 70’s helped spring’s true bounty to shine forth brilliantly. Yes, the birds were lovely as they flew to and fro singing their song, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the frog, see! I walked past the pond in the middle of the day and just barely caught sight of last summer’s bullfrog as it jumped back into the water. By mid-afternoon the frog was seemingly less timid and positioned near the edge of the pond, but with only its head sticking out of the water. I welcomed the frog back for the season and it didn’t seem to mind as I checked him out for a few minutes.
Also this week, I had to remount the bluebird house as it had fallen from its post sometime during the winter. An easy part of Saturday’s chores, I was glad to have the house back up and hoped it was in time for any potential bluebirds who might like to use it. Well, by Sunday I was really glad to have fixed the house when I looked over and saw a bluebird perched at the opening and in the process of building a new nest.
Hope does spring eternal! The bluebirds are back in their home and the right combination of using my pond heater on the cold days this past winter paid off nicely last weekend when the old bullfrog arose from its winter slumber in the depths of the pond. It was very cool!
