Cool sightings of the week:
First, I noticed the male red-belly woodpecker at one of the wooden feeders the other day and he appeared to be picking at the feeder itself, seeming to peck for insects perhaps, I really wasn't sure. Then, just yesterday, the red-belly was seen at the same feeder again, but this time I could see more clearly, just what the big woodpecker was doing. He was taking the small black-oil sunflower seeds and wedging them into the corner of the feeder in order to hold them still while he'd crack them open and eat the nut from within the shell. How ingenious this bird was, and here I thought it was pecking apart the feeder for no good reason.

Also this week, both the rhododendron bush and the honeysuckle bush began flowering, adding greatly to my daily dose of spring delight.

What a great time of year it is, indeed! Getting to learn more about the already impressive red-belly woodpecker and enjoying the sweet fragrance of the honeysuckle bush this week was very cool!
