More than a hundred Canada Geese were seen passing over the backyard last Sunday evening. With some of them honking and others flapping their wings or just soaring between strokes.
Meanwhile, the high winds of the past few days have shaken most of the remaining fall leaves from their branches, leaving so many bare trees and providing a stark pre-winter landscape, worthy of at least a few moments of contemplative thought.
Backyard Tip of the week:
Though you might not think of it, the backyard is a perfect place for peaceful thinking and even meditation. Grab your favorite lawn chair or perhaps just cop a squat on a comfy spot of earth which seems inviting to you. The newly exposed bark in a stand of bare trees may draw your attention to more peaceful thoughts. The clear blue sky on a windy day may help you to brush aside any unnecessary cares which have been blocking your progress to a higher state of mind. You may catch sight of a wildflower blowing in the breeze, or some other special natural beauty. When you find yourself immersed in deep thought of the subtle nuances of your backyard experience, you'll know that you've found your backyard zen and that your enlightenment is not far away. Try it, you're sure to love it!
