The action at the bird feeders has picked up quite a bit recently. Perhaps, due to the chiller weather, many of my favorite backyard birds are now regularly seen more frequently each day. The purple finches have returned to the backyard for their fall and winter stayover. And I've been seeing a lot more of the tufted titmice at the various feeders. In fact, just yesterday a titmouse was seen at one of the thistle feeders which the smaller finches usually frequent. This titmouse seemed perplexed by the thistle feeder and quickly moved on to the songbird feeder for a bit of black-oil sunflower seed.

Meanwhile, A couple of hot air balloons were seen taking advantage of the still very colorful fall foliage as they passed over the mountain late Tuesday afternoon. And this week's clear skies and full moon left this backyard bathed in midnight blue for several evenings in a row.

Backyard Tip of the week:
See if you can leave a few of the chores behind this weekend and find a few minutes to just enjoy yourself. If you can't skip the chores completely, maybe you can spare a moment to jump in a pile of leaves or something fun like that. Try it, you're sure to love it!

Backyard sightings for last week:
Including northern cardinals, blue-jays, brown creepers, song sparrows, tree sparrows. Carolina wrens and Carolina chickadees, catbirds, mockingbirds, house finches, goldfinches, purple finches. Red-bellied and downy woodpeckers. Northern flickers, white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, mourning doves, crows, grey squirrels, red squirrels, chipmunks, skunks, bunnies, ground-hogs, a pair of bull frogs in the pond, and a red-tailed hawk!
