Cool sightings of the week:
A couple... There's a fruit tree that's been growing for some time in my garden and I'm not quite sure what it is. It's been there for years. I planted it along with some other trees from the Arbor Day Foundation and I sure don't remember at this point what kind of tree it was supposed to be. Then, last Monday I looked across the backyard toward the garden and saw bunches of bright red fruit hanging from the tree. I ran quickly to the tree, light on my feet,  hopeful that I might finally solve the seemingly endless mystery of the tree and perhaps even sample a bit of it's fruit. I arrived at the garden without delay and picked the fruit with the eager anticipation of a schoolboy who has heard the ring of the ice-cream truck. The fruit was small, red and delicious, and quite definitely an apple, though I'm not sure what kind.

Also this week, a red-tailed hawk was seen flying over the backyard last Saturday morning looking for an easy meal. My obvious presence in the yard seemed to thwart his efforts however and the hawk flew on by. Either way, Finding an abundant crop of delicious apples and catching sight of a red-tailed hawk making a backyard fly-by this week was very cool!
