A few areas of red can now be seen mixed in with the yellows and predominant green hue of the trees on the mountain as of yesterday. The changing leaves held their majestic Autumnal beauty even through the extreme winds we experienced on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Eastern Goldfinch is now wearing it's winter coat. The muted colors were noticed earlier in the week and left me wondering at the seemingly sudden change. Also this week, many more of the backyard wildflowers were observed to have gone to seed, including the very delicate and accordingly special evening primrose.Backyard Tip of the week:
Another quick reminder that now is a good time of the year to collect any natural seeds from your backyard wildflowers and any such plants that you enjoy. Just grab a container, take a walk around your yard, and collect some of nature's best seeds - or, "free landscaping" as I like to call them. Be sure to keep track of the seeds you gather. It's OK if you don't know the plant names, any reminder note will serve you well come next spring when you might think of planting your wildflower seeds. An easy way to add more of what you enjoy to your backyard, try it, you're sure to love it!
Backyard sightings for last week:
Including northern cardinals, blue-jays, brown creepers, song sparrows, tree sparrows. Carolina wrens and Carolina chickadees, catbirds, mockingbirds, house finches, goldfinches.
