Backyard Sightings For Last Week:
Including northern cardinals, rose-breasted grosbeaks, bluebirds, blue-jays, brown creepers, song sparrows, chipping sparrows, house finches, goldfinches, pine siskins. Barn swallows, Baltimore orioles, American robins, Carolina wrens and chickadees, catbirds, mockingbirds. Red-bellied and downy woodpeckers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, northern flickers, white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, mourning doves, a few crows, a ruby-throated hummingbird, and a few hummingbird moths, as well. Butterflies and bullfrogs, chipmunks, skunks, bunnies, red and grey squirrels, still a couple of lightning bugs night, plenty of bats, too. A pine warbler was spotted drinking at the pond this past Tuesday, a first ever sighting for this backyard. And, the elusive red-breasted nuthatch was seen last Saturday for the first time yet this year!

Cool Sightings Of The Week:
First, as briefly mentioned, the red-breasted nuthatch has returned to the backyard! Spotted on the cage-style peanut feeder last Saturday, the pretty little bird was there again throughout the week. I'd seen him around the yard in years past, so, maybe he's been here all along and I just haven't been watching closely enough, but the red-breasted nuthatch is a sort of secretive bird which may explain it's rarity. I've been putting out more peanuts lately, too, which might have something to do with it returning.

Also this week, a pine warbler was seen drinking at pond last Monday! Never seen before in this backyard, the pine warbler took a good long drink then flew off on it's merry way. Warblers are kind of tough to identify, though, so there's a small chance that it was actually a yellow warbler. I'm not really sure. Either way, catching sight of a warbler at the pond this week and the red-breasted nuthatch for the first time yet this year was very cool!
