Last week's stray sunflowers have turned into this week's food for at least a few of the backyard birds. Many of the sunflower seeds that grew inside the flowers have been picked and eaten fresh from the vine, so to speak. It's neat to see the many empty slots in the flowers.

Meanwhile, the small red squirrel has been seen and heard using the garage roof as a shortcut between the norway spruce and black walnut tree. I'm not sure how the little critter opens the hard nuts, but it seems quite fond of them. The red squirrel takes the black walnuts with him and stashes them for future use.
Backyard Tip of the week:
I went to the pond the other night to look for frogs as usual, but found something more. When I arrived and shone my flashlight onto the water there were three frogs close together in one small section of the pond. Seeing them gathered in that fashion struck me in such a way that I was inspired to ask a question of them. A very deep question, actually. One of particular importance and meaning for me. So I spoke my question aloud and somehow felt better for having asked it, even in front of my somewhat limited amphibious audience. I, of course received no obvious response from the frogs in regards to my query, but I did find a degree of solace in my sudden inspiration. So, here's your backyard tip for this week - Tell it to the frogs... or to any of your own backyard friends and look to them for guidance as needed with any of your burning questions. Try it, you're sure to love it!
